At 05:53 this morning our various monitors detected an outage of our main Webshop SaaS services. At 05:58 our engineers were alerted via SMS and at 05:59 services resumed without intervention by our engineers.
Initial investigations indicate a communications problem between our web servers and database server. Our monitors indicate that the web servers were responding to them but that they did not receive the information that they ask for. This is indicative of a connection challenge at our database servers which are located in Microsoft Azure.
We will endeavour to determine the exact cause and will post more information here if and when it becomes available.
We apologise for any inconvenience that this outage may have caused.
Updated: Over night last night the Azure subscription for a server that houses a read replica of the main database became disabled. We believe that this brief outage was related to Azure disconnecting the primary database from the then unavailable read replica and tidying up connections etc.
We understand why the subscription became disabled and have already modified it so that this will not occur again.
